Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to be fun. Johnny, would we be leaving out of SD or San Pedro? All I know about is San Pedro, but I'm sure there are other ways.

There are two routes to Catalina that I know of. One leaves from San Pedro, and the other leaves from Dana Point. Dana Point would be a lot more convenient for the San Diego crowd if we were planning on meeting on the island. Otherwise, we'd have to choose one or the other if we all want to ride over together. San Diego is, I believe, about as far from Dana Point as San Pedro is.

I'm waiting to find out about some business trips I have to make into Canada, primarily the travel dates. Right now, I know I'm in Toronto from August 19-26. Other than that, everything is up in the air.

If I can make it, though, I'll be there!

His boats are docked in Long Beach (atleast they were last time I checked, he may have moved them) Right by the Queen Mary.

If we take the cattle boats, its around an hour

I think 2 Harbors would be a better trip for nature and wildlife, where as Avalon is better for people (I'm pretty sure we can land at Avalon and jump over to 2 harbors if we wanted)

How does Sept. 3rd sound? I'll shoot an Email over to Grandpa and see what the trip time/space for passengers is, If its going to be 4 hours each way, I'm taking the express boat.

September 3 looks clear for me. Is that Labor Day weekend?

Looking at the links you provided, we should probably decide if we all want to take the boat together and, if so, do we depart from San Pedro'Long Beach or Dana Point. Of course, if we agree to just meet on the island, we can decide where (I like Two Harbors idea), everyone can then just leave from the port most convenient to them...

September 3rd is fine with me. So is either Dana Point or San Pedro.

If Two harbors is better for wildlife, then let's do that. We can always go over to Avalon and shoot there later in the day.

And yes, I believe September 3rd is Labor Day weekend...

Oh good, this is going to be fun. :)

I think Dana Point would be a good mid-distance meeting point.

And I also think Two Harbors would be a good choice.

Anyone up for some Buffalo Burgers?

O.K., so we have September 3rd, Dana Point Harbor, and Two Harbors destination.

As for Buffalo Burgers, I've never had one, and don't really have an inclination to try one. LOLOL!!! I might be able to be convinced, though.

What time would we leave? Looks like Dana point only leaves at 7:45am or 11:55am on Saturdays, and the last ship back is at 7pm. My vote goes for 7:45, as its atleast an hour and a half to avalon (another 30 to Two Harbours) thats 10am before we even start shooting, but that gives us 8 hours to play with, where as if we leave at 11:55, we dont get to Two Harbors until 2pm, and get 4 hours to play on the island.

I'll call over and see if there is a Dana Point to Two Harbors route, schedule only shows Dana Point to Avalon

Hi, Johnny. Man, that would be a help if you could call. I hadn't realized it was such a restricted time. Your're right - 11:55 would be a tad late. I'm game for the 7:45 one...even though I am NOT a morning person. I'll just get the Starbucks Bigma, and hope that will help. LOL!

It looks like the boat from Dana Point only goes to Avalon. If we were to go to Avalon, how far is that from Two Harbors? My thought is that, while there, are we going to not want to do any shooting, dining, etc., in Avalon. If we are going to hit Avalon at some point during the day, it might make sense to take the boat there. I think they run shuttles from Avalon to Two Harbors.

Also, I just saw where we can take a helicopter there and back for only $144.00 per person. It puts you in Avalon in 15 minutes...

Yes, I work all weekends. My normal days off are Wednesday through Friday. But, like I mentioned, I have a vacation starting September 7th, and have the following two weekends off.

Labor Day weekend probably doesn't work for me, either. We are heading north to Reno for big goings on there. (BEST OF THE WEST RIB COOKOFF at the Nugget Hotel) It's just a silly tradition in our family.

Have you thought about the crowds you might hit on a holiday weekend? Might it not be worth considering delaying it a week or two?

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Crowds...yuck.

All right, how about the second weekend in September? Thomas, Belmondo, does that work for you? How about everyone else?

Doesn't look like I've currently got anything planned. I'm going to Canada at some point in September; just not sure when...
