Doesn't look like I've currently got anything planned. I'm going to Canada at some point in September; just not sure when...

All right, then, find out. 'Cause you and I are supposed to meet, and I'm gonna clonk you and toss you overboard. Isn't that the plan?? LOL!

In all seriousness, it would be great if you could come. And yes, we are going to want to eat and see Avalon. I can't swing the heli at the moment (but man, I'd love to do that), but maybe Avalon is the place to go first, and then swing back to Two Harbors. Also, there are some tours that take you back to the closed areas of the island, and that may be interesting too. I'm looking at those, and will post when I find out cost, route, and timing.

This is gonna be a great get-together...

Best-
Michele

All right, how about the second weekend in September? Thomas, Belmondo, does that work for you?

I'm climbing Mount Whitney on the 15th, but both weekends before and after that are free and clear for me.

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

The upside is that I get some input on when the trip is made. The downside is that the final decision isn't mine.

Hey, if I can make it, I'll be there...

Catalina was just named as 1 of the 10 best island getaways, beat out Honolulu, Maui, and a few others, saw it on the MSN website yesterday.

Any info on the tour of the closed areas?

Looks like I'll probably get to make the trip to Catalina.

My trip to Canada will be to Vancouver; a quick trip: up on Monday, back on Friday. Regardless of the weekend, I should be able to make it...

I am sorry to say that I will be unable to attend anything in September and probably October ... I'm moving around the first week of September [from Los Alamos to Buellton, both on Hwy 101] and any suggestion to my wife that I am going anywhere until I've re-arranged the furniture twenty times will not go over well ... j/k about the furniture, but I can't imagine that I'll be doing anything but unpacking for a month or two, and perhaps turning the room we've set aside for a studio into a studio.

OTOH, when we're moved in and settled I'd be happy to host an overnight stay at our house as part of a photo trip to the Santa Barbara area. I hope to have a studio (see above) and workarea including an Epson 7800 printer (when they come available) and computers for downloading, processing, CD burning and the like.

I just completed Whitney on Monday.

The mountain is still there, and this was Year 30 for me.

Most of the very high elevation flowers will be gone in another week.

When planning any kind of outdoor activities in Southern California during the summer, it is imperative that you are aware of the weather forecast.

On Monday morning, I was walking on ice, and by Monday afternoon, the thermometer read F 102. That is Southern California for you.

LOL, yes indeed. I was out of town yesterday, and needed a jacket. But by the time I came home, I wanted a tank top.

Catalina, though, is relatively consistent in temps (a lot like San Diego, I hear), and as long as we go in summer, it's not too cold.

I'm behind on getting schedules researched; I've had a bit of a muddle to get through here at home for the last week. But I'm still working on it. Hopefully, I'll have a full blown plan by the end of the day, and get it posted up.

Best-
Noni

An even 30, huh? Congrats. My first (of two) Whitney trips for this year will be next week. Yesterday I made it to the top of Langley and Cirque. That was my revenge hike. I tried and failed at both of them last year...

Yes, I must have started that back when I was only a tiny child.

The L.P. Ranger Station was a zoo. The yard was filled with people trying to get permits. I had a permit reserved, and still it was a hassle. I had spent three nights sleeping high in the mountains, and that is sufficient to do OK on the mountain. Weather was normal. There is only a tiny amount of snow left on the trail, and it will be gone by the time you get there. The flowers are already past peak bloom.

This was my first year to do the mountain with a DSLR. In previous years, I have used a film camera due to lighter weight.
