It's pretty good as it is. I think you did a good job under the circumstances.

For better results try to get somewhere where there's better light - the lighting on the cat is fairly even and as such looks quite flat and dull. That's easier said than done, of course - cats go where they want to unless you trick them

Did you fire the flash from the camera? You might want to try bouncing the flash off a nearby white wall, that will add some three-dimensionality to the image.

As you know, cats will pose only if they want to... I got him with a window with blinds on his back and his left side. Very sunny day.
I used shutter 1/60s, Aperture f/5.6, ISO 400 (probably too high), used flash and red eye on, focal at 55mm.
I agree, my flash should not go on with so much light around, but it did.

I think you definitely needed some flash, but the hard bit is trying to get away from the on-camera flash look. He's a lovely looking cat, I miss not having ours around.

It has a gray cast to it that can be helped in PP. It would make a huge difference to do a curves or levels adjustment.

Up the contrast and see if you can't improve the white balance.
