i just bought a tokina 12-24 f4 but it seems like its not very sharp.i tested it with my sigma 24-70 f2.8 and it smoked the tokina.are wide angles lenses not so sharp? or is something wrong with this one? i shot the sigma at f4 and the tokina at f5,6 any thoughts are appreciated

the left is sigma and the right is tokina

I have never had the Tokina, I have had the Sigma 10-20mm, 15-30mm, and Canon 10-22mm and that looks very soft. How much of a crop is this? Can you post the exif and full frame?

I never, Not once claimed to read your post...

unless you plan to have pics around your house at 100% crop, take the lens around and go shoot some stuff and see if you like it...

btw, my tokina 12-24 is pretty damn sharp... but more importantly, i'm pretty impressed with the colors and images and fascinated by the fun of UWA's...

it's a keeper for me...

i have been shooting outside but it seems most of the shots are not sharp enough.maybe im not used to the lens or maybe im used to the sharpness of the sigma but im not too happy with it.im thinking i might i have a bad copy.here is a shot of me.would you consider this as sharp?

Were the test on a tripod using the mirror lock up? Also, was the Sigma stopped down?

IMO from looking at the two pictures it looks like the tokina has a nicer contrast and color.

I was thinking the same thing.

Something is odd with that Tokina. I've owned two over the years, and both have been blisteringly sharp.

Any chance that your camera supports AF micro-adjustment? Might be a simple adjustment fix.

Same here... the Tokina has been a wonderful lens in all areas for me. After adjusting AF micro-adjustment, perhaps try sending it in to Tokina. It's too good a lens to simply return!
