Hi all.
I am getting the above lenses and I also wanted to get some lens cases for protection. I read at the-digital-picture.com about their recommendations for lens cases - both from canon and from lowepro

100mm macro (non L, non IS)
they suggested the lowepro 2 for a tight fit and the #3 for the loose fit.
both of these cases are over 8 inches in length. the 100mm is 3.1 inches by 4.7 inches. Since I can't ask them, why in your opinion would it be advisable to get such a long case? Is there any benefit? Do people store the lens with the hood attached? Is the harder case of the lowepro better at protecting the lens than the soft case of canon (lp 1219)

55-250 IS
they suggested the lowepro 1w (can be with hood) or the 1N (snug and without the hood). Any opinions from the group about this suggestion? The soft case from Canon is the lp 1019

Thanks for any suggestions and/or insights
