For the head I'll get the Manfrotto. Gripped 7D - 3 Ls - 3 non-Ls - 580EX II - Too much Think Tank gear - Cotton Carrier Holster

The 3-way head isn't great for tripod feet on lenses because the controls are the wrong way around. I think I need a different type of quick-release plate. Note in this pic that the centre column is extended for maximum height. Modelling 350d with grip and 100 Macro lens. In this pic, the centre column has been removed and re-mounted horizontally. Also, the legs are in their "position 2", (above shots are position 1, position 3 is all-but flat. This is hugely useful for macro work (hence the choice of modelling lens) and product shots. I selected this tripod because I knew it could be stable with the big lenses (100-400 > 1100g, 70-200 > 1500g) and the leg work + centre column make it immensely versatile. I'd recommend it to anyone. Blipfoto
