These are mine

Manfrotto 680B with 234RC monopod head and universal folding base (1.5kg)
Slik 381 CF with SBH-120DQ ball head (800gms)

At the moment I prefer the Slik due to the lighter weight, it is just as stiff as the Manfrotto

I'm debating between the Benro MC-91EX and the MC91M8. For the head I'll get the Manfrotto.

I started with a Manfrotto 190 PROB set of legs, and mounted the 384RC2 3-way head on it. The legs have a detachable centre column which can be mounted horizontally.

The 380RC2 head uses the Manfrotto QR plates. So, when I bought a monopod, I replaced the head plate with a Manfrotto 323QR head. I put this 323QR atop a Gitzo 2541 monopod.

Pics later, if I remember.

Found some:

Collapsed, but standing:

Legs collapse to 20" long.

Modelling 350d with grip and 100-400 IS lens.

The 3-way head isn't great for tripod feet on lenses because the controls are the wrong way around. I think I need a different type of quick-release plate. Note in this pic that the centre column is extended for maximum height.

In this pic, the centre column has been removed and re-mounted horizontally. Also, the legs are in their "position 2", (above shots are position 1, position 3 is all-but flat. This is hugely useful for macro work (hence the choice of modelling lens) and product shots.

I selected this tripod because I knew it could be stable with the big lenses (100-400 > 1100g, 70-200 > 1500g) and the leg work + centre column make it immensely versatile. I'd recommend it to anyone.
