Yep it is out, but a specailised product only, not really of value to 'mainstream'.

Latest rumor - the 20D is intermittently missing from Canon's US web site:

http://consumer.usa.canon.com …tIndexAct&fcategoryid=111 (external link)

Also, one poster on another web site said that in his store, the 20D has gone into "clearance" status, meaning that they won't be ordering any more.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmnnnn......

No it doesn't make me go hmmmm ....
Geeze the 20D was announced in august '04.
I'm more surprised the 300D/Drebel is still on that page.

I agree with that - I don't think that the 300D is still in production. The 550EX flash was removed quickly after production ended, but the 300D lingers on.

On the other hand, announcement date probably isn't as relevent as one might think. If Canon has a chance to gain a competitive edge, they're going to go for it. If Canon can make a $1400-1600 1.6X camera that can perform close to the D2x, they'll build it and sell it. And if they can build a full-frame camera for $3000 that can equal or outperform the D2x, they'll build and sell that as well.

I don't really know what's up Canon's sleeve, though I suspect the FF rumor has at least some truth to it. But this is a rumor thread and it needs to be nourished on occasion. :)

It may be a rumour thread but it's driving me nuts!! I have have been close to getting the 20D on many occassions and am hanging on (barely) for it's successor. Just hope it isn't 'til next year or I am wasting precious time...Been dragging my heels due to small print size of 8mp (11 or 12mp is fine), no spot metering, 1.6 crop etc. Well, I'm watching and waiting...

Seems to me the Pro1 is due for a new version. They have new versions in all classes of camera's except the Pro1.

A75->A510
A85->A520
10D->20D
300D->350D
1D->1DmII
1Ds->1DsmII
new SD's
S1->S2

What's left?.....the Pro1. It's behind, competitors have 8-12X zooms, pro 1 is 6x.

Canon would do well to make a new Pro-1 that is very unique from their competitors, but that's not likely. In the P&S realm, there are lots of similar models that, but for the nameplate and exterior styling, seem to be the exact same camera.

I think it would be a better choice for users if Canon were to offer a respectable 10X zoom as a kit lens for the XT. The tiny sensor in the P&S cameras really can't match the capabilities of the larger sensor, and in terms of size, the XT really isn't that different from the Pro-1.

:cry: Yes, the 20D is not in the Canon USA EOS home page, and (ugh!) is marked as discontinued in the eXpansys store (you can check it at: http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=CAN_EOS20DBD (external link)).

I got mine in B&H less than a week ago...

Just jump on in, it will be around for a while yet, well ito next year anyway. 18 months seems to be about as short as they go, and we are not even at 12 yet.

Very interesting...can only mean that a upgrade is on it's way in the next couple of months?? Maybe the 11mp 1.6 crop body rumour is true?

Maybe I'll just wait a bit before getting a 20D - either the new one will be great or the remaining 20Ds will drop in price!

This thread is probably going nowhere, and yet there are a lot of post, so I might as well post too. I heard that Canon and Nikon are merging to make a sweet 22mp P&S, GPS Cellphone, with WIFI, and a builtin 120GB HD. But who knows.

You are absolutely right :D

Much more logical than that the respective website administrators are screwing up (as was the case before with the 'discontinued' 17-40/4 L :lol: )

PS: From what I know, the 300D is still being sold officially (most likely produced as well) as 'entry level' digital camera. Hell, its specs are still the same as NOINK's top-of-the-line consumer camera D70 whatnot:wink:

Best regards,
Andy
