So I could get a few shots of him. What a challenge! But I managed to get 3 good ones (out of probably 40 tries!) Just thought I'd share my 15-month-old. Taken with my trusty XS and even trustier 50 1.8! (And good ole light from my window.):D

Thank you, I treasure the few shots I can manage. They grow so fast. :)

Nice - I previously owned a 50mm 1.8 and every so often I would nail a shot with it but found it slightly too slow to photograph children like this but you've shown just how good that little lens can be when it gets it right.

Nice colours and I like the window light/catchlight in his eyes.

5d Mark II + whatever lenses I have on the day..

Great shots, he is a cutie! I like #2. I am a sucker for black and white!

My 50 has been on my camera since my little one was born 5 months ago. I love love love it with natural light during the day. Not so keen on it at night though..

Now using a Canon SX50 and loving it :)

Thanks so much. I guess I never thought of it being slow on focus, but it probably is compared to some other lenses (this is the best lens I've ever had, so can't compare.)

I don't have a lot of extra money for lenses, so this will be it for awhile and I use it for everything -- portraits, nature, scenic, etc. The only time I grab my kit lens (18-55 IS) is when I need a wide shot. For low-light, the 50 is all I got (but I don't take low-light photos very often.)

Thanks again -- natural light is best for me right now. I hope to pick up a Speedlight sometime because NH is dark a good chunk of the year (and my cheap-o flash is probably not cutting it.) :)

Yay! Another "Nifty" lover! I'll tell ya, I dropped this thing down my BASEMENT STAIRS and it's still working that well. (However, it was damaged; the ring gets stuck at times, so I will probably need to replace it in due time -- hoping to get a good 2-years out of it first, though. Call me cheap!) :D

Thanks so much! I like that one, too -- his expression kills me. I wondered about cutting off his head like that (though I've done it mindlessly many times), but I read that it's OK; you can cut off tops of heads but not hands and feet. :)

Yeah, that's my main light source, lately. It faces NE, so nice afternoon sun. Thanks! :)
