Overall they're okay! White balance is a little off and #2 has blown highlights, unless that was the intention. His ear looks unnatural in 3.

#2 was in bright sun light, but he really wanted that pose with the score board in the back ground.

The B+W is the best of the series. The score board in the background is a great touch. The first image seems a bit soft. The skin tone on the last images seems a bit washed but I do like the it.

Is your monitor calibrated? The color balance is all over the place - not just the white balance and tint. The image is also over exposed. Here is my 5 minute LR2 fix up, with the corrections applied.

Read this thread about off camera flash. Quite lengthy but very good indeed. Your shots will improve greatly if you practice the techniques here.

I like the B&W best, too. The first thing I notice in the colors is the bright background. Just watch for that (avoid it if you can, but a good/better fill flash will help. Personally, I just avoid those backlights if I can.)

Why did you use ISO400 then? Do at the lowest ISO and use flash for correct expousre the face. Personally I would have choosern better time of the day.
