Hey guys!

I'm going to be buying a Think Tank Shapeshifter soon, used without a raincover, for 200 SGD, about 150 usd ;)

Just thought what it'd be like to be shooting with the skin pouches instead of the modular padded pouches?

I have the following for modular:

Lens Changer 25
Whip It Out
Chimp Cage
Lightning Fast

So I should get Skin set and then sell away the double-wide if I don't need it, yes?

Any discussions and suggestions would be great!

Cheers,
Zexun

I suspect you could get away with the Lighting Fast and the Whip It Out! by storing them flat inside the Shape Shifter. Probably the Lens Changer 25 instead of the Lighting Fast if you want to replace that one with the Skin Strobe.

Whip it out and Lens Case 25 can't fit properly in the shape shifter without it feeling bulky and difficult to walk around with. I just reserved 2 x Skin 50 pouches from a local photog for 25 SGD, or about 18 USD each. Quite a steal! Gonna be selling my lens changer 25 for them.

As for the chimp cage and lightning fast, I'll look into it. Their padded interiors can be taken out and be used as compressible unpadded components with zippers which are probably safer than velcro/flaps only. If I need to use them with padding, I can always add them in!

Just a question. Is it difficult to walk around with the skin 75 pop down? My friend said it'll probably flop round too much... I'm used to my Whip It Out being snug and all, but it has no place in my shapeshifter.

I walk around with my Lens Changer 75 extended... so I imagine you should be OK.

Ah, but the LC's have a padded structure. Skins don't...

Anyone can comment on the above? Plus maybe give any comments on the double wide?

I have Skin-set and i use part of it with StreetwalkerHD. I changed backback original belt to Pro belt.

Normally i use Skin Chimp Cage and Skin 75 Pop Down, take what i really need and leave another in backbag. Often i leave even backback in a car or hotel.

Skin pouches doesn't have protective material, but it's not a problem, lightweight is better.

I don't use too often DW, it's so large and i am so large that i can't go easily down with all stuff ;-)a

if i remember correctly, the TT Shapeshifter's unique ability to collapse flat is because it has generous elastic pockets inside (that are not padded) and lays flat when empty.

you may have some difficulty insserting a padded lens case inside the elastic pockets.

also, when you stretch any elastic fabric too much, it will not recover to the original shape...

How'd you find the Skin 75 PD? Does it flop about a lot when there's a lens + hood in place inside?

Unless I get a buyer for the DW from the skin set, I guess I'll just buy the components I need separately... Too bad about saving money I guess.

Ah, I'm not intending to put any modular pouches inside. The elastic pockets are neoprene so they're pretty 'padded' in a sense, slowing down what's packed inside of them in the case of a bag drop. Physics: momentum and all that jazz.

Btw I can fit my think tank steroid speed belt on the shapeshifter but it's not an ideal fit - the bum-padding flap's velcro isn't catching more than half of the bag's bottom velcro... is this dangerous? Need I shift to a pro-speed belt instead?

If you put a 70-200 into the Skin 75 PD, does the lens move around inside a lot? Does the pouch move about a lot when you walk?

In both, No. In a top of the pouch is a rubber band(below of this image)
what you can use for tighten a pouch. 70-200 2.8 is also heavy enought for prevent moving.

In Pro belt, pouch fits quote nicely and not moves a lot. It's moves not disturb me... or i move so slowly :D

Haha, moving slowly is not a luxury that one has in event / journalistic photography (; But yeah I guess even though the entire pouch might flop around, the lens can be clasped tight at the top with that pull string. Thanks!
