I want to print 24 x 36 from white house.
They need the files to be @ 300ppi

That means 7200 X 10800 pixels

But my camera can only produce approximately 3647 x 5469 pixels.

I'm planning to add text as well.

I can only manage to get 11x16 @ 300ppi picture.

Should I upsize the completed poster (picture + text) to 24x36 @ 300ppi
or
Should I upsize just the picture and fit it into 24 x 36 @300ppi canvas size and then add the text ?

What is the best way to make the 24 x 36 print?

Thanks in advance

If you are using a lab to do your print, let them upres the final - as long as you submit a file to them that fulfills their requirements for a 24x36 you should be good to go. Otherwise, I use Genuine Fractals.

Kirk

Attached are 100% crops of 72 point text on

1) a document of the pixel dimensions at 300 ppi that you stated above (3647 x 5469)

2) an upres'ed image of same at 100% (using Genuine Fractals) so that the doc is 36x24 @300 ppi.

If the lab's upresing is any good, it looks like crisp text won't get crushed - the upres was 200% to get your original camera dimensions up to the final.

I'm not sure about upsizing the image, but I would add the text after you upsize it. I just find adding text last is the easiest for me.

Have Fun,
Jeff

As long as your text remains a text layer (ie you don't rasterize or flatten it), it doesn't matter if you upsize the image afterwards. The text will remain a vector, and is therefore infinitely resizable.
