oh what a joy it is to finally own one of these expencive toys :p

One way to get some help with the "a lot to learn" problem is a good book:
"Understanding Exposure" by Brian Peterson. I got this book when I first started with DSLR's a few years ago, and it helped me a lot.

I'm finding this out! I went to the store to get a $400 G11 and ended up with a T1i kit, 55-250 EFS, and a 50mm F1.8. That's substantially more than $400. It's been great so far though.
