A photo seems to ALWAYS look better when it's published somewhere - even if it's just on an space weather forcasting website. :)

That is cool, Robb!

Something like that happened to me a couple years ago -- a gov't agency wanted an osprey photograph for a Web publication and asked if they could use one of mine, and it felt pretty good, although the one the guy picked out wasn't one of my best:)!

Just sort of suggestion for next time... this photo would fit under news, at least sort of. And in this business HDR and similar funny things are BIG NO.

Thanks for the unsolicited "lesson"!

Perhaps you're not familiar with spaceweather.com, but it's not a news media site in which journalists submit news photos. It ain't Reuters, AP or Getty's - it's a general interest site, and relies on submissions from it's users for content.

I've worked freelance and as a stringer for years. I know the guidelines around submitting manipulated photos for journalism publications.

The photo I submitted to SW isn't news. It's a "fun" photo. Where did you get the impression I was submitting it AS news?

If you have problems with anyone not jumping around of happiness because you finally got "published", then there's simple solution... just don't post such threads. Or at least write, you don't want any other comment then "congratulations, I'm so happy for you", and I will gladly stay out of such thread. And posting crap on someone's blog is not the really one of right solutions.
I would write few more things, but since I'm sure you won't like them either, I will stay out of it. Good luck with your photography.

Ouch! Me thinks Mr. Sports photographer of the year 2005 hasn't gotten published (or laid) in a while. Chill out, man. There is a wide range of talent on these forums, from rank amateur to solid professional, and each of us have our own definition of success. Why would you rain on this fellows parade?

You know what? I'm not worried, nor am I stressing. There's one in every crowd: Someone with an ego so huge, who are so high on themselves that they see someone doing something different than they would, and they take it upon themselves to "educate" them on the error of their ways. And by educate, I mean stick their nose into something that they don't understand one whit, based on their opinion that they know more, or are better than everyone else.

In the end, it's kinda funny. :) It provided a pretty good chuckle among myself and my peers. :)
