So my 28mm f/1.8 went in to Canon with a damaged mount and issues with the AF. This sucker's fairly old to the point where the housing is/was actually different than the current one, so its no surprise that it came back with the new style.

While Canon did an excellent job with the repair, I wish someone had told me I'd get the franken housing back, it looks quite strange now (the difference is much more apparent in person).

What was the change in housing? I don't see it...

I think it's matte vs glossy on the finish.

look closer to the top of of the lens, its most apparent there. I'll comb through my archive for a previous photo of it for a better comparison.

What exactly did they do to the lens and how much did they charge you?
The new version of the lens is costly, so you could have come out ahead - I assume that you did or you wouldn't have gone for the repairs.

Hm. My housing looks the same. I would say it doesn't look strange, but then again I'm a noob.

basically replaced everything but the glass and front bit of the housing, only cost me 120.00 to get it all done, which yes, given what I paid for it used ($200 CAD) still puts me out ahead.

Rising, your housing looks the same because it now has the new housing, the differences are more subtle towards the front.

Edit: Must have culled the photos I had of it before, but you can see the same body here:

Did you have the Sigma 30f1.4 and like the Canon 28f1.8 better? Your photo shows both.

If it is of any consolation, I think that the new one looks better. :)
