I have about 10 key words on a photo that I have hosted in Zenfolio.

I copied these 10 words, and pasted in google search (both search web and search images). My photo did not come up in the results, I gave up after 10 pages. Since the results at this point are clearly not closely related to the search words, I concluded that Google is not seeing my keywords that are included in my Zenfolio photo description.

Is there a reason that I am not seeing my photos int he results?

Any suggestion? I prefer not to make another account such as Flickr, etc.

Got a link to an image with keywords? I'm curious as to what Zenfolio does. Do they claim that Google will see the keywords, or just that you can search using them from within Zen?

When did you upload the images.
From what I understand (my knowledge of web crawlers etc is next to zero) it can take several days and even up to a week (maybe more) for them to find it.

Well, to be clear, Google does not index the "keywords" metatag. They do use keywords they cull from your site as a mechanism for ranking, just not out of that metatag.

oooops, forgot the "meta" Thanks for the correction Dave.

What you will want to try is to include direct key words. Example, instead of the file being named IMG_001.jpg try naming it something more direct, "YOURPHOTOCO._beach-hourse-rental-orange-county.jpg."

I'll try it.
I'm just trying to figure out how to get more traffic (via search) to my Zenfolio site. Actually, not my site, but more specifically a gallery.

I have always wondered this and to why the keywords have never helped....?
To be honest I was just too lazy in asking zen why this is so, in fact I still am too lazy.

let us know the results

Cheers

Yep, give it some time.

This is only a third of it. You want to do as mentioned to name the image. And if available, put the same thing in the description area. And if available but it in the "tool Tip" area..... the words that pop up when you hover the cursor over some images. Not all hosts give you the opertunity to load up these areas. But if you can then by all meant do!

So, how many sites do you think Google found with your key words? My guess is about a zillion. They use some complex system of ranking web pages that results in the likelihood of any individual page with a common subject matter being high on the list as just about zero. There's more than I could ever understand about it on the web. Just do a Google search. You can actually start here:

http://www.googleguide.com/google_works.html (external link)

If your subject is less common, you'll likely get a better chance of being on top. For instance, if you enter "nostalgia drag racing" in Google, my web page (Flathead Fords and Nostalgia Drag Racing) will come up on the first page. I don't think that's because it's a good web page. I just don't think there is that much serious competition.
