Personally I use KISS and Couture Book. Both are amazing!!! Definitely KISS if you're on a budget.

Yes, they rock!! Talk to Dave @ couture book. He's awesome. Tell him I said hi. And don't forget that any duplicates you purchase in the same order are 50% off. Perfect for getting studio samples.

Are there any albums that dont require photoshop to use? I had a family member want me to get one made with the pictures I am taking, but use lightroom and don't have photoshop. I've never made an album so I'm not exactly sure how they work.

I use PictoBooks for my albums and have had nothing but great results. They also offer a design service that's relatively inexpensive, which I also use. The downside of their design service is that they design it, not you, so if you'd like to have more control over the final product you'll have to become more proficient in Photoshop. However, the upside is that they design it, not you, so you don't have to spend hours of your time sitting in front of the computer. I've liked every design they've come up with (and you can always tell them if there are particular files you want as full, two-page spreads) and their design fee is way less than I would charge someone else if they asked me to do it.

I am proficient at photoshop but for a small fee, I wouldn't mind letting someone with tons of experience do it for me. What do they charge approx?

Thanks for your feedback Matt.

This thread's a wealth of information. Thanks.

Laguna Albums is outstanding, as is their design service. They're reasonably priced considering what you're getting.

Leather Craftsmen is top shelf for that lifelong heirloom look (not cheap).

Both in So. Cal.

I don't do many albums but have still found the $300 for Pixmatic's FotoFusion software a worthwhile investment. It leaves most of the actual photo editing up to other software (uses links rather than rendered imports) but it's jam packed with time saving and capable formatting/layout features!

Enginyr - I see your point about "if the end-customer only knew what our printing cost really is" .... I don't think bucking the confidentiality agreements is the right approach to solving that. It's just a slippery slope. More importantly, it violates a trust you've been given when you got that price. Even car salesmen (who surely rue "dealer invoice cost" lists) have their kickbacks.

Okay, I've taken this thread to the Mods and we are not price policing, but are asking posters in this thread to stop the insults and try to be more informative. Move on and we can learn more and argue less.

Got carried away with life and all; haven't had time to read the latest rant, errrrrr, post from this thread :) The pictobooks design fee differs from album to album, but it's less per hour than a good mechanic would charge...

If that's the case, then in my neck of the woods it would still be quite pricey . I found for all the PP I had to do and deadlines I had to meet it was cheaper to learn photoshop in the long run.

Oh I still do plenty of PP, but laying out an album is a lot of work, especially during my busy time, when I can have as many as 12 weddings per month. Picto's design fee is worth it to me, so I can still have a life away from my monitor :)

How! That's crazy busy! You work the 2 hour chapel or something LOL. I just can't imagine all the back-and-forth communications what with photo selection and nervous upcoming brides.

Doing that plus your own albums would be nuts.

This thread has now had a big clean up and SuzyView has spoken, I suggest everyone take note of what she has said, as she speaks for all POTN mods.

If anyone doesn't want to listen, or has a problem then you need to send a PM to a Mod.

POTN is not here to enforce other peoples non-disclosure agreements, or protect your pricing practices.

Now more than ever we need to be a community, working together and for each other, as photographers, as lovers of photography and as members of POTN.
