This past weekend during our Arbuckle-Simpson Nature Festival, I got to be part of the Bobolink Banding. I feel like this is a special event for anyone in Oklahoma since they only migrate through and usually only stay for a few days. This year they were here for around 2 weeks.

Dr. Doug Wood is an ornithology professor at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and always does a bird banding session for the festival. This year we got the bonus of Bobolinks. We caught 5 of about 50 or so. They were eating well while here, I think all 5 had a body fat count of at least 3.

Great!!! I love what information the banding gives us, it is such a great thing. Bobolinks came through our area in last two weeks like I have never seen before, I day saw at least 5 or 6 hundred in one area, a week later narry a one!!

Just an "ole dog" trying to learn "new tricks"! helpful advice is always welcome!!

Canon 7d, Canon XS/ XSi,18-55, 14-40 L, 70-300, and Bigmos! my"work in progress" http://ducklabdad.smugmug.com/ (external link)

ducklabdad, I like to hear that you saw that many. We usually only have a few come through, this year we had 50 or so.
