Hi Everyone,

last weekend a young lady of 18 did some modeling for me. This was her first time modeling as she was nervous, but as the session progressed she showed alot f skill.

Anyway, I'm looking for some feedback on these photos I took of her. Done in my living room with limited space. Please tell me what you honestly think, ood and bad.

Many Thanks,

NicholasBB

This model holds a promise.
#1 seems little pale, #3 I like the best, is most natural imo.

Well, the first two are nice photography, but she has an odd expression in #1 and a bit rigid in #2 (maybe nerves?) The last one is best, but a bit under-exposed. (Nothing that a little PP probably couldn't fix.) Nice job. :)

The images are soft and your lighting isnt the best but that happens with living room studios sometimes. But the poses dont flatter her. The two face shots are from odd angles above and to the side of her, and the one of her seated doesnt show her well at all.

I agree with Hennie's assessment. The flesh tones are a bit pale on #1 but #3 looks great. I love her expression, focal point and crop in #3. The lighting on 1& 3 seems almost too even unless that was your intent. If you changed the lighting ratio a bit and added a hair light you would get better separation from the background. A bit more PP on the eyes would also help #3 pop. Overall, pretty darn good and a cute model.

One suggestion I have is when doing a full body portrait such as the second photo - don't do it from a normal stance. It's a very generic, every-day view that is very uninteresting. Get low or on your knees even. I would even go so far as to pull the seat further away from the back of the muslin and pull the light in a little more toward you. Almost the entire front of her is unlit.

Have your key light at around 45 degrees from you. If you want, you could have a backlight illuminating her hair to give some definition. But definitely pull away from that muslin.

Definitely need to turn her more toward the light in #2.....like the above poster said, 45deg lighting is the way to go for most portraiture. Cute girl! They look soft on my monitor as well but with web compression it is hard to tell these days.
