Hi, I'm currently using my 7D's wireless feature to trigger my 430ex. It works fine but the only down side is that if I continuously keep shooting, after a while, I get the "busy" indicator between shots. Reason being, the on camera flash might be getting over worked as its needed to flash each time I trigger the remote 430ex.

So is there a work around for this issue. I tried setting the on camera flash to manual and set it to lowest power but it didnt help. I cant affor the pocketwizards right now so I guess I'll have to continue using my cord for OCF :(

Any other solution would be great...

Thanks,
Kevin

Are you using the built in flash to add light to the scene or just triggering the external flash?

In the 7D flash menu, the Wireless func. has 4 options:

1) Disable
2) external : built in (Ratio)
3) external only
4) external + built in (added together)

I would expect that choosing option 3 should use the least power from the built in flash and give you faster recycle times.

Yes im using the built in flash just for triggering the external and doing this using option 3 you've stated above...so I guess nothing more can be done? :(

Thanks for replying!

Im trying to shoot manual anyway, so I guess NO ETTL should not be a problem.

yongnuo is a decent product I have a couple.. and they work really well.. I tested on my 7d and xsi and work at over 80 ft 100% actuation on all 3 I have. also comes with a camera lead for remote shooting.. wireless actuation.. if you don't already have that.. just be sure to order the right model and be ready to wait a couple of weeks.. it ships from China.

I just ordered the RF602 from here (external link) but it doesnt say it works for the 7D (Canon 1D/1DS, EOS 5D Mark II/5D/50D/40D/30D/20D/10D)....this makes me nervous now :(

I just purchased a RF602/C YONG NUO Wireless Flash Trigger while on a trip to Hong Kong. I tried it out in the store on my 7D and 430EX and it works flawlessly.

As a bonus, it came with a PC Sync cord and I can plug it into the Remote jack of the 7D and fire the shutter using the transmitter. I have been playing with it a little and it seems to work very well so far.

You may ask why I need one of these with the 430EX, well I was attempting to hack the flash using instructions similar to these (external link) and I think I damaged the SLAVE/OFF switch. So the wireless function on my flash does not work natively with the 7D.

Sounds like RF602 is a pretty decent trigger...thanks

The Big drawback is no eTTL. It is manual exposure all the way.
