Had to take Paxton back into the vet today as his swollen throat was WAY worse. It was awful.

They had to cut his throat, but they got the foxtail out. The wound has to stay open so that it can drain. ?! *gag*

He's feeling much much better though, and despite my queasiness, I'm glad that he got it fixed. I have to keep it open and draining for 3-4 days.

Poor Paxton! I remember sitting in the waiting room with Ashley, waiting for her "cherry eye" surgery, when a woman brought in a dog who had swallowed a foxtail. :(

Man, this catching up is a chore... I feel like giving up...

Hi Lonnie

Zoë has developed a terrible habit I am not sure how to deal with. She grabs tall grass and weeds as she runs by, or every time she pauses by some. It concerned me but I was not sure how much she was actually eating or if she was just wanting to put her mouth on something. She threw up this morning and I was startled at the wad of grass that came out. Think of a wad of plant matter the size of a hot dog in a bun:confused: When she is close I reprimand her, tell her to drop it, or reach in and pull it out if she has started to swallow and can't spit it back out because it is a long piece of grass.

Do whats right HERE

That's what always drives me to catch up. I hate feeling like I missed something! But, I think it's about time I face reality. I just don't have the time any more!

Howdy.

When I was visiting my friends at their camp site up north a week-ish ago, Minnie started chomping on some grass. A few hours later she hacked up the nastiest clump of green grass and yellow bile. Yeee-uck! She's never done that before...

Hey Z. Maggie throws up a grass loaf once in a while. Gracie throws up rope. (No longer buying them - Maggie tears them up and leaves them - Gracie eats them!).

Gracie discovered her voice today. She has barked now and again. Usually when I leave her home. Today she found the Kong that had been hidden behind a door. Maggie got it and boy Gracie wanted it back. She got really frustrated and started barking. And she hasn't stopped. We went to PetCo and got a second one. But of course they both only want the one the other one has. Dogs. :D

I'm trying to correct her, but it's not working. Any suggestions?

I love it when I find a great bargain...

A couple weeks ago I went looking for some reference books to use for a bio I plan to eventually write for my Weekly Pioneer blog. One book I wanted was the memoirs written by the man himself. It has been out of print for about a century, so I headed over to Archive.org (external link) where I found it available in PDF format. The other book is a biography written about him which was published in 1929. It has also been out of print for many decades, but I found four copies of it available via resellers on Amazon. Two resellers wanted $225 and a third wanted $275. The fourth was only asking $12.99 for the copy they had. It smelled kinda fishy, but that reseller has hundreds of thousands of ratings on Amazon with 97% of them positive. So, I thought I'd take the chance. It's only thirteen bucks. Let's see what I get.

The book arrived in the mail last week. It's a ginormous first-edition hard bound "coffee table" kinda book, in much better than the "Good" shape the description claimed. Lots of fold-out maps, drawings and illustrations, and it even included a cloth covered cardboard case. Oh, yeah... This is a very rare book easily worth $200+. I still don't understand why they sold it for $12.99 plus $3 shipping/handling! The shipping alone should have cost more than the total I paid! But, I ain't complaining!

Don't dogs eat grass if their tummys are upset? Maybe she has a belly ache?
