Onions are a major no-no in my diet. I spent countless hours at the dinner table as a youngster cause I refused to eat them. I held out though and to this day I won't eat one.
I had the same experience. Parents would give me 15 minutes after everyone else had left the table, then I had 3 options. Eat them, get a spanking, or go to bed for the night. I remember one warm summer evening when I was around 6 and I had opted for bed. The other kids in town wanted to play baseball and needed another player. My brother told them about the trouble I was in and they all came over and stood below my bedroom window. " We really need you or we won't have enough people for a good game, just take the spanking. It will only hurt for a little while then we can play ball for an hour!" Right. My dad could spank right up there with the best of them. I don't remember if they had their game that night, but I know I didn't take the spanking.

A sweet onion caramelized a bit into gooey, yummy, sweetness is heaven in soup, burgers, taters....... Me thinks you need to try a good onion and give it another chance.
Yuck to all cooked onions. Greasy, slimy, disgusting things.
