Why can't Adorama and B&H hire some Gentiles to keep the store open the extra 5-6hrs on Friday and maybe just maybe have the store open on Saturday? What are they scared of? The place isn't going to burn down or turn into Alternate Hill Valley 1985 in the matter of a few hours.

I've gotta say, they lose a lot of money from the Payday/Immediate Gratification/Emergency Replacement for Saturday Shoot crowds.

p.s. Yes I need some gear for the weekend and can't make it uptown in time to buy before they close.

Because the owners believe in properly observing the sabbath and not doing any business on the designated day of rest.

Argh, why can't Chik-Fil-A hire some Jewish folks to "mind the shop" on Sundays? ;)

I'm sure if B&H were a "normal" store and was closed on Sundays, we would NEVER see threads like this.

But because they close on THEIR day of rest (as opposed to the day of rest of the majority), folks get in an uproar....

(sorry, as a "chosen one" myself, I find threads criticizing B&H's business practices ....ummm...interesting...)

Meh, not a big deal most of the time. You should consider yourself lucky you even have the option to go there in person. Most of us have to be satisfied with buying online and waiting for our goodies to ship.

You take a little offense to the OP there egordon?

I think BH and Adorama are worth waiting a couple days for on major purchases. They both have outstanding service in my experience.

ACtually, as a gentile myself, I always found B&H shutting down on the sabbath and holy days to be one of the few remaining institutions whose owners "walk the walk" in respect to their faith. They are choosing to honor their faith by following it despite financial loss, and I think that is great. Yes, they could hire gentiles to work those extra hours, but they chose to follow the INTENT of their religious laws, not the just follow the letter of the religious law. Staying open would still have their "business" working, although their jewish employees are not. I have even more respect for them because of their stand on the issue, despite the pressure from their customers. I am willing to wait until they open again after the Sabbath, happily. I know it is frustrating for you, Michael, but....

Normally yes I agree 110%, but when you have a lens meet with an unfortunate end and have to replace it in a pinch things change. :(

Taking offense is your choice, I advise you though to be mindful of how you look considering it was an obvious joke and a Back to the Future reference. Of course, this is America and you're free to feel and express yourself how you wish.

p.s. The Sabbath is only practiced to this level by the Hasidim from what I understand. If you're personally offended that would lead me to believe you are a member. But I am puzzled further because you're on a pc during the Sabbath...just sayin'.

I have to agree some what with mike. Most of the time i have an opportunity to shop at the store is when they are closed. It has definitley become an incovenience and can understand his frustration. At the same time its a double edged sword since its for religious reasons as to why they do it.

fyi: GREAT SCOTTS...the back to the future refrence was hilarious. More people should see the trilogy!bw!

I too am of the crowd that appreciates them "walking the walk" and not just talking the talk. I've been inconvenienced by their closings, but I think it's good to sometimes exercise restraint in our "immediate gratification" wants.

I take the good with the bad.. I get a little less crowding on the train home Friday afternoons. :)

In my opinion, B&H is worth waiting for.. If not, this place is only about 30 minutes out of the Lincoln by car:

and their prices and inventory seem pretty good; though I have not been there yet.

For what we pay and for the amount of business we give them, we have the right to be impatient :p I'm pretty religious about using Adorama though, I love those guys. Hell I only like to be helped by Cliff. He's an awesome rep. I say rep because he doesn't try to "push" a sale on me.

I notice a good amount of the folks saying, "No big deal" aren't New Yorkers :lol::lol::lol: It's a fast paced give it to me now kind of town. This is how it is.
