Shot another game last night. Let me know what you think. I tried to shoot at a higher ISO and up the shutter speed, but I still have ball & bat blur.

Will keep working on it this weekend.

Scott:

Those are fantastic. Not sure how much better you think they can get, honestly! To completely freeze the ball, my guess is probably 1/1600-1/2000 on the shutter. What speed were those shot at? Also, what camera and lens. Looks like a 300 f/4 at least!

Here is the exif from the last photo:
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 200 mm

It was evening when I took these shots. I upped the iso nad pushed it to 800. Normally I would not od that, but I anted to up the SS and see if I could "Freeze" everything.
I may shot the 100-300 f4 tmorrow. We'll see. maybe do half the game with the 70-200 the nthe other half with the 100-300.

I shoot with a 20d and I have all Sigma glass. A 70-200 mm 2.8 and a 100-300 f4. They are my workhorses. especially the 70-200. It is a sweet lens.

I want a 1d, but the $$$ is another story. With 3 biys, 2 who play sport and paying for webspace now, I have to save my pennies. Even a 4mp 1d would be awesome. But then I look at the 7d and I think that may be sufficient. We'll see what happens.

Depends on how many photos I can move this season.

The feet in the first two .. cropped so close to not being cropped, probably should have kept the batters feet in the shots? The concentration on the hitters faces is great.

Their feet were not in the shot. That is another thing I am working on. When the batters are up, I am trying to get bat on ball or pretty close to it. Shooting vertically to get the ball on bat is tough so I have been shooting horizontally to have more of that part of the frame to work with.

That's why the feet are cut off. All you can do is keep on trying. Thanks.

Bat on Ball isn't something to try and strive for.. it's that difficult that the post swing follow through with the player watching the ball fly works better. It's fun to get a 'BOB' once in a while but way too much work if you're actually TRYING to get it.

You are correct. I shot a game today and I just missed it both before the hit and right after.

Usually with bat on ball shots you don't get a good face either.

And anything that was close to being bat on ball, well you are correct Sledhed. Everything else is out of focus. If it happens, it happens. If not, no big deal.

Great series like others said I would try and get the feet in there. I am pretty new to sports but I can tell you that from a non sports perspective I feel their is too much luminance or color noise removal then oversharpened so you get these jagged artifacts around the eyes and on some edges.
