Posting here to get better response...I hope.I have a Canon 40D, the main mirror bracket is broken on the lower right hinge assembly. I believe it will take approx. $200.00 to fix it. Trying to way out all my options. It is about 2 yrs old. Any guys/gals got any idea what it could be sold for like it is. All other functions on the Camera are working properly. Thanks in advance, Stephen.

Is it broken at the actual mirror box or just the mirror hinge?

There is a guy on the FM forums that buys broken equipment. I sold him a broken 20D for 80 shipped, so yours is likely worth atleast 200 or so...

Hope this helps

The hinge is the only thing wrong with the 40D, other than that, it works perfect.

Canon gives free estimates - why not ship to them? They'll even ship back for free if you reject it.
I would imagine someone would take it as-is for around $250-$300 or so...

Do you want a new (better) camera? If you are happy with the 40D I would see about getting it fixed..

Canon USA has a 'loyalty program' in which they allow you to buy a refurbished 50D at a very nice price, as long as you have a defective camera. More info, and a phone number...

I'd get it fixed. I don't think you'd net as much for it as-is as opposed to fixing it and selling a whole camera.

Send it to Canon and find out how much it costs to have it fixed. If it's reasonable, fix it.
You'll probably get very little for it in it's current condition.
With all due respect, I would assume that there could be much more wrong with it then just a broken mirror hinge. It would just be too much of a crap shoot.
However, a 40D with a new mirror assembly might even command a premium price over your average used example.
Good luck.

I'll be curious as to what you do. I've got a primo 40D that I've kept as a 3rd body, I never thought I could get what It's worth to me. With that said, if it required a $200 fix, I'd probably do it and keep it.

My Canon 40D broke about 1-1/2 years ago at just the WRONG time...I was standing right next to Cinderella at Walt Disney World, waiting to get my picture taken, when all of a sudden, the shutter broke!!! How did my camera know?!?!?!

Turns out, it was the secondary mirror that was broken. I don't know if it's similar to what you're camera's going through, but I sent mine into Canon, and $200 later it was all fixed. I haven't had a problem with my 40D since then.

Luckily, I was able to return to Walt Disney World the next day with my back-up 30D and *finally* get my picture with Cinderella. :D

If it's mint and it's 200 to fix, then why not fix it?

You could easily get that 200 back when you sell it as a mint camera (as you say it otherwise is) than a busted one. Plus, you'll have a lot easier time selling it. (Or fix and keep, 200 isn't that much to keep a 40D running if you like the camera)
