Canon put a really tough LCD protector on every 5D at their factory. You really don't need another.

Giottos glass protectors can crack and cause scratches trying to remove the shards. You don't need no stinkin's protector on Canon DSLRS.

Is the screen made of glass or plastic? If it's glass then you don't need a protector.

I've found our 5DM2 screen to be tough as well. I'm right eyed so I leave a lot of nose grease on the screen. A little Windex sprayed on a towel removes the grease and it looks as good as new.

Putting any sort of protective film on the LCD screen isn't really necessary, the screens are quite tough actually. Plus if you do need to replace one, they're ridiculously cheap.

all canon dslrs already have a screen protector over the lcd. On most it's a very hard plastic, tough to scratch, but easy and cheap to replace (about 15 bucks). The 7D has a glass protector over the lcd so it's even more robust, however slightly more difficult to replace.

Well, just to thrown in a comment ;) I wear (rimless) glasses and in the right angle it seems as if there are faint scratches on the LCD of my MK II from my glasses - BUT: If could actually be plastic rubbed off my glasses - and I have to look at the screen sideways.

I don't think I'll bother with a protector after having one on my 400D... and I suppose you can always have Canon replace the glass after a year or so if it gets bad...

Replacing the Canon LCD protector is a bugger although it doesn't cost so much, it's very finicky getting the protector off and then aligning the new double sided adhesive strip, at the same time your trying to keep the lcd screen free from dust.

Just get a normal LCD proctector and slap it on for piece of mind. I put one on the top LCD screen as well. I'd much rather replace a $5 protector for scratches rather than the Canon LCD protector.

I would like to put a matte screen protector over the screen so it is easier to see during the day. I have a matte protector on my iphone and I wouldn't be able to live without it.

I'm not sure if there are any matte protectors for the 5DII, though. :(

Agreed, the protectors that come with the DSLRs are already easy/cheap enough to replace.
