can I DIY ThinkTank Hydrophobia?

I was thinking of buying a Gore-Tex jacket like this one

and cutting it up, restitch the cut areas, and presto, I could have 2 rain covers for about $80. Lens would go through the sleeve, body in the shoulder area, etc.

Am I being stupid?

are you planning to seam seal it?

the nylon fibers of the fabric will transport moisture through the seams and hence goretex jackets are seam sealed.

the needle holes, thousands of em, will be the weak point as well.

my friends at Toray have developed a wonderful system of fusing all seams on a down jacket with a KNIT fabric... that means, it stretch fits... it's amazing!

I wasn't planning on seam sealing. I thought the seam that I created via cutting, would end up being at or near the lowest point of the 'jacket'.
