Hi,

I just bought a Miranda Pro Video 1 Tripod with the intention of using it with my Canon 400d. I only paid a couple of quid for it, but when I got home I noticed the quick release plate was missing - there's just a rectangular space with a sprung loaded lever. Presumably the plate is still with the camera the tripod was used with before!

Anyway, does anyone know where I might locate a plate for this - the hole is square, 40mm on a side, and about 10mm deep. Obviously I don't want to pay a lot, as I only paid a couple of quid for the tripod itself, but it's more sturdy than the one I already have.

Thanks

I've never heard of that brand of tripod (though Miranda cameras were popular in the mid 1960s) on this side of the big pond. I'd suggest you check with some of the photo stores in the UK and see if they can track down a source for you.

since you just bought it, why not go back to the store and ask for an exchange. most stores will do it once you explain the situation.

I bought a replacement quick release from an old tripod here...

You can contact them first, in case you are unsure what to get.

Not likely, since the Miranda products haven't been in distribution for a lot of years.

@OP: you might have better luck with finding a cheap head which uses something more common, such as Manfrotto's RC2 quick-release. You might then replace the receiver of the head with the RC2 version, if it doesn't require any special tools and/or machining.
Just a thought...

Citation, please?

Apologies if I was misinformed, but Miranda lenses and similar things really haven't
been available for a long time. Has the brand been resurrected?

Or it at least bears mentioning that, in the US, Miranda has gone the way
of Soligor and similar names, in that there is no such name here anymore.

Once-respected names of the past are simply not available here as new products,
and have not been for decades. The distribution and marketing for some of those
names has come to an end here. While they may still be alive in other parts
of the world, they seem to have ceased distribution in the US a long time ago.

No flippin chance I'm not giving you my postcode to put in the stock search thing and that is the only way to prove about my closest shops. I've told you the name of the shop it is a massive chain google the shop yourself if you think I'm a liar.
Just try to bear in mind please that there is a world beyond your borders and just because you don't have something doesn't mean we don't.

Oh PC World have them too.

Hey, easy, please.

I was just trying to glean some information; you really didn't need to
bite my head off about it.

You might also read my qualifying remarks in the next post.

Or were you too focused on some sort of perceived sleight to get beyond a simple misunderstanding?

I had a look at the head on this tripod, and I can't see where I'd "swap the head". Was a good idea, though.

I have found a plate for about £8 that'd do it, I think. Also, and friend who has a veritable "Aladdin's Cave" of old camera bits has invited me round for a rummage! ;)
If I don't find one, he says he'll MAKE ONE! So, I think I'm sorted!

Thanks guys for your ideas.
