Cookie cards and Gobos are often used by commercial photographers (as well as in film and theater ):
Do you use projected light for creative effect in your photos? Please post your shots:

I guess I don't see or understand what you're asking. First you talk about gobos and cookies and then you ask about projected light, so what are you wanting people to post. Your image is interesting, but it has nothing to do with gobos or cookies. Projected light yes, but I see no use of a gobo there.

Just to let you know, I completely understand the terms you used. They are devices first used in film making and then used in video production. They are often made from steal frames with particle board centers with odd shaped cut outs to allow some dappled light to fall on a BG or a subject to add interest. I have also made quick cheap ones from Cine-foil/blackwrap and a knife or screwdriver. Papertape can also be used to cause a pattern or an abstract. How close the gobo is to the source light changes how sharp/defined or blurred the edges of the lite areas are. Matthews Lighting Company even makes a device called a Dado Projector to be used on a small 150 watt light. They sell all sorts of round steal discs that are inserted into the Projector lens and you get all sorts of different shaped patterns. Add a colored gel to the front end and you can make all sorts of interesting BGs. The most commonly used one is the window blind or Jail bar look. Deppending on the orrientantion of the lines you'll get different looks. Horizontal they look like light coming through a window with adjustable blinds on it. Turn the lines verticla and they start to look like light coming through jail bars, a radicly different look. I use them all the time in my work in video production. They get a little cliche after a while though.

What 'chu talking about Willis?

I like it! (@ the above post - I think the gobo he used is just a square, hence the nice clean light projection. That's quite a history lesson though)

You know, you're right, I thought that was a white table the blocks were on. I completely missed it, thank you. And sorry to the OP, I didn't see it.
