Here's some photos I took of a local business person. I would be interested in any critiques.

I'm trying to get better at a couple of things:

1) Posing/composing people for portraits (I mostly shoot commercial photography)
2) Post Processing them in Photoshop (smoothing skin, etc...)

I edited around this models eyes using Adobe Camera Raw's Spot Removal tool. Any advice would be appreciated.

I can't give you any advise because I am learning as well ... however, I just wanted to let you know these look good to me. The model should be pleased with them.

Thanks! The skin beneath her eyes look natural to you?

I have photoshop but i need to learn how to use it. What i do use for Skin PP is Imagenomic Portraiture. Posing what i did was purchased a few books on posing. It's starting to help.

I've thought about purchasing Portraiture. But will it allow you to easily fix skin wrinkles? I thought it was just for smoothing skin texture.

I really believe so. What you can do is download the trial and give it a shot

The photos looks good and so does the eye processing.

For business photos, I would have smaller full teeth smiles.

Question I have photoshop, where is the Adobe Camera Raw's Spot Removal tool?

Are the tools when you open a raw image or after? Spot heal tools?

Thanks! Yeah, it's when you're in the Camera Raw window. I'm using CS4. It's the one with the paint brush and the stars around it.

What I started doing is if I like a particular pose that is in a photo i would save the image and print it later and eventually made a whole posing book. I dont steal the poses because you will realize that you will want to put your own twist to things but I just use it as a starting point.

The link above is a "posing guide" that I found online that gave me this idea....hope this helps.

I actually think these are very nice, I really like the rim lighting on the left side; I do agree with the comment about too much teeth on the smile, and the crop seems a bit tight on top, but overall I like them.

Posing for business photography, I suspect, is quite different than posing models for fashion or a portfolio. If possible, I would try and work in whatever the person does into the shoot, and let the poses come naturally. Also, mix it up, some sitting, some standing, at a desk, etc. Are these shots for a website? A business card? Brochure? Depending on the medium and the message, I'd think about appropriate shots, then take it from there.

I don't think there is a spot removal tool in camera raw, it's only available once you open the image in photoshop itself.

I have Photoshop CS4 Extended for Mac. When I open a Raw file Adobe Camera Raw opens. This is a screen shot of the tool bar at the top left of the ACR screen. The Spot Removal Tool is the paint brush with the little stars around it. You can choose to Heal or Clone with the tool. Try it, it works great! (and it's not permanent because you're in ACR) By the way, to the right of that tool is the Red Eye removal tool and then my other two favorite tools, the Adjustment Brush and Graduated Filter.

The Adjustment Brush is AWESOME! You can darken/lighten areas that you specify with the brush. The Graduated Filter is just like using a graduated filter on your camera. You can use it to darken skies, etc...

I learned all this by watching an excellent tutorial on Adobe Camera Raw on Lynda.com. But that was when I was working at a different company. My new company has yet to start a subscription with Lynda.com.

Your right I had never noticed the spot tool in camera raw. Thanks for pointing that out. And I agree, the adjustment brush is awesome.

She looks like Teri Garr did -- back in the 70s!

That said, even though background is sufficiently OOF, I still find it distracting; another stop or two down would help.

As to the pose, most folks look better with their body turned at a 45 degree angle from the camera. Also, instead of arms straight down by the side, one hand on a hip and the other flexed a bit at the elbow can make for a more dynamic look.

IMO, the work you did under her eyes looks fine. It's such a small element in the image that it doesn't draw attention.
