My wife uses a Nikon Lens cap on her 24-70 L
her reasoning is she likes using the best, and Nikon make good lens caps

I've bought a lot of these before. Good to use when you have a hood on.

Here's what you do: EBAY!!!

It may take at least 2 weeks to show up from China though.

I have a few Tamron lenses (2 Adaptall mount, 1 EF mount) so I know Tamron caps well. There is no perceivable advantage over the eBay listings of center pinch caps with 'design for Canon' on them or those in the earlier link within this thread.

I bought my lens cap from here:

http://www.fotodiox.com …ult.php?keywords=lens+cap (external link)

Here`s their Ebay store link :

http://stores.ebay.com …_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322 (external link)

They are a local vendor (Waukegan, IL) and not from Hongkong. So you`ll get it quicker...

This is the actual picture of the lens cap i bought from them.

I bought some of those Canon branded generic ones before but they're not very good quality. Unlike normal centre pinch caps, the pieces come apart if you simply pull them out - there's nothing to lock the pieces together to stop them falling to bits!

I'm going to order some Nikon or Tamron ones soon, i've had a Tamron one before and it worked great so i know there are a lot better.

Tamron, like Jon said. He introduced me to them years ago and I use them with my 70-200 lenses as the hoods are huge and the inside clips are much easier.

It's probably a pennies difference. I just order the appropriate Tamron cap whenever I order a new lens. The convenience and the savings on shipping are worth it.

Canon-branded generic center-pinch caps can be had cheaply from
DealExtreme (external link). They fit well, and stay put.

You can save a ton of cash by going this route, if you don't mind waiting
the almost two weeks it takes for the items to arrive.
Shipping from DealExtreme is always free, and there are a few other
sources which seem to be identical to DealExtreme in their business model.

I use Tamron caps on all my lenses with the exception of one Nikon cap. The Nikon cap is nice but I don't see any advantage over the Tamron caps and it costs twice as much.

since we're on the topic, i was just curious, what are those lens caps that look like they have a ping-pong ball in the middle?

If you can read this, you don't need a macro | 7D + 5DIII + Waaaay too much spent....
