I don't have a true remote though I do have a micro-mini plug with two wires that I can touch together and fire my shutter, BUT I never use it, if I feel a remote I use the self timer.

You will find no more zen at the top of a mountain, than the zen that you bring there with you.

May 18, 2010 11:44 | #20 Yup.. I use the remote. In my case, my 30 yr old tripod is not steady enough to hold the camera steady if I am pressing the shutter. I had bought a cheap cable release from amazon... it worked well for about 2 weeks. One of the Canon cable releases is on my wish list, but with the inexpensive remote working so well, the cable release is a lower priority for me right now. 7D | 300D | G1X | Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 | EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 | EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro | EF 85mm f/1.8 | 70-200 f/2.8L MkII -- flickr

Chet showed up to keep the place interesting More info | May 18, 2010 11:50 | #21 When I shoot team portraits I use the remote as I can see the players faces much better. This gives me the opportunity to scan for eyes and faces before I click the shutter. Helps a lot and reduces the I think everyone was looking by abut 80%.

Tendy Goldmember More info | I bought myself one recenly and as I do a lot of macro work I'd say its a godsend! Previously I would have to use the self timer which is limited to 10 seconds by default on the 10D. To get 2 seconds you have to go into Custom Functions and set Mirror Up. (They really should have put that as a seperate button!) Now I have the remote I can breathe easier! 5D | 30D | Canon IXUS 265HS | Oppo Smartphone

There was a separate switch on the body itself just for MLU. Website: Iowa Landscape Photography

Also of use would be the ability to choose between 2 and 10 seconds for the self timer, like I can do on my Panasonic FZ7. They could have made the Quick snap button or whatever its called more assignable and have that as one of its options. 5D | 30D | Canon IXUS 265HS | Oppo Smartphone
