Got up at what seemed like the middle of the night last weekend for the first real test of my 50D (just upgraded from a 30D) & 17-55mm (actually the first one was with the sigma 10-20mm) ... I have to say the quality difference between the 30D & 50D is staggering and I am in love with live view now!

edit: Just noticed these all look softer than the full size versions

Beautiful! Love #2!

I've been wondering what to upgrade to (still loving my 30D but will need to at some point) Is there really that much difference between the two?

Thanks!

There is a big difference, I was happy with the 30D but decided to upgrade rather than repair after damaging the remote release socket.

Apart from the IQ being noticeably better imo, it's the little differences like being able to store your own custom settings on the dial, larger, clearer screen, live view (makes composition for landscape shots like above much easier and more comfortable), menus are easier to navigate and there are a few more buttons on the camera itself making it quicker to access some things as well. Also I do some stock photography so the larger image sizes are a massive bonus (and my main reason for choosing the 50D over the 40D).

Well worth upgrading

Really like the first two and, coming from a 10D, couldn't agree with you more regarding live view. That coupled with the grid is fantastic!

First one is my favorite from this set. That would look great as a computer background!
