Market Price for EOS 1D Mark II?

Can someone give me a ballpark figure for what a Canon EOS 1D Mark II's value would be? The one I am looking at looks like a 9.5 on a 10 scale, works perfectly, and has 9997 clicks. The current owner is the original owner and bought it in March of 2005. He wants $1200, but that seems high.

Note: this is a 1D Mark II, not a 1Ds Mark II

Does it come with the box and all of the accessories? That does seem a little high, more of a 1D mkIIn price. I'd think something closer to $1k.

Why don't you just go to the "For Sale" forum, do a search and see where the market is at?

1) That price does seem high to me. I bought mine at exactly that price a while back and prices have backed off since.

2) That shutter count is suspiciously low for a 5 year old pro camera.

In January I sold a 1D Mark II in excellent condition with the original box, accessories, but an extra battery and focusing screen for $895. If I were to buy one now I wouldn't pay more than about $825 which is roughly the prices these cameras go for on Fred Miranda.

To answer some of the above points and questions:

* I did go to the FS section, but there were only a few 1D Mk IIs there, and the dates of sale went back over months and into a year, and the prices varied quite a bit. This is why I asked here, because I know some other are more tied into other forums than I am that reflect market prices.

* The seller told me he was a hobbiest, and just took family shots. He said he prefers the size and weight of his Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1K over the bigger and heavier Canon, thus the sale of the 1D Mk II.He also told me he's never reset the shutter count, and it's got less than 10K. I don't know him, but the pix of the camera and it's condition support this.

* A cursory glance at eBay prices have less than $800 (and more like $700) as a decent price these days.

* The seller is going to be disappointed in the price I offer for his camera.

Thanks for the input, guys!

Some go for $650 these days. $1200 is way too high.

For that low actuation I would say between $900 and $1050 with a good battery, charger and accessories.
I have myself a backup 1D mkII that I may be selling, that has less than 7000 actuations (confirmed by Canon during last month cleanup/check). Unfortunately I don't have the box, but I'll throw some additional batteries. If I'm selling it now, I'll probably ask for $950~$1050.

I just bought a 1D II here the other day and I would suggest that the price is to high. At the price you are being asked to pay I can pay for a shutter replacement as well as cleanings for a long time to come and still be under that price. Keep your eyes open the price is coming down in the on line options it seems to me.

i bought my 1dm2 maybe 6-8 months ago for 1100. This was with only 5k clicks, 2 batteries, and a kirk L bracket. At the time the MarkIIN's were going for 1200 with maybe 50k clicks and no extra goodies. Granted the market changed a little but, for what I see.. Its a tad high.

$1200 US is a little high for a 1D2. $900-1,000 would be about right for one with 9997 clicks but how do you know that it has only that many? Does the seller have a Canon service invoice with that shutter count or is this based off the user readable shutter count using 1DCount or the likes?

When I got mine around a year ago it was $850 with a battery, charger, dc coupler, was pretty clean (8/10 since there were a few scratches), and had 110k clicks on it.
