can someone recommend one for me? I think most handstraps require a grip or plate in addition?

I want something to help steady the camera when I'm shooting video clips

Use the canon ones.

The canon hand strap requires either a grip or a plate that has a strap attachment point.

Opteka makes a hand strap for non-gripped bodies. It attaches at the bottom via a built in plate using the tripod mount. You can pick one up for $10 at amazon.

The Hakuba KGP-02 Grip-LH is very similar to the Canon one and comes with a plate attachment which screws into the tripod mount (it has a tripod insert on the bottom as well so you don't have to take it off when using the tripod). If you use a Arca Swiss tripod QR, just get a plate or L-plate with a strap mount for your camera and use the Canon or Markins hand strap.

That's nice to know. I'm looking to add one of these for my 7D. Thanks!

i have a camdapter. love it. i got the one that is compatible with my manfrotto ballhead so it snaps right in even with the strap attached.

I use the Markins all leather strap which I find fits farther behind the knuckles, closer to the wrist, and makes the connection to the camera tigher. I found it better than the Camdapter. Haven't tried the Canon.

More expensive than the others, but the fit was worth it to me. The leather also form-fits to your hand.

I too switched to the Markins strap after reading user comments here and I find it fits more comfortably than the Canon and Hakuba ones I had been using. The difference was subtle, but noticeable. I still use a Canon one as well, but my primary camera has the Markins strap on it.

I also have a camdapter and love it! I have an arca swiss plate though. (well now I have a grip so it is attached to that) I want to try the markins, because I have heard that it is more comfortable, but I just love my camdapter so why spend the money...

Regarding the Camdapter straps. Can't I just attach it to me Arca style plate and not by their plate? I have a phot clam plate and it has slots in the sides, I assume for this reason.

Thanks - jriley

Yes, as long as it has a slot to attach to you should be fine.

+1 for Camdapter. Have them on two bodies and couldn't be happier.
