extending Tamrac camera strap

Does anyone know of a way to extend the Tamrac camera strap?

I currently have the Tamrac Boomerang N-5057 and want to make it longer so I can sling my camera to the side. Kind of hanging it from the should across my chest. If I can do this, I won't need to buy into the CameraSlinger or Black Rapid system.

Are you good with a sewing machine? You can buy the webbing at most outdoors stores like REI and sew it onto the existing strap. I've made a lot of my own straps over the years that way.

I am hoping to keep the quick disconnects function of the Tamrac strap.

Of you cut one of side of the strap (or both), it will be an easy matter to sew in a piece of webbing. Make sure you burn the ends to keep it from unraveling and use bar tacking for the stitch. Bar tacking is lines of multiple narrow zig zag stitches running across the webbing. Another way would be to remove the existing webbing from and substitute a longer piece.
