Hi people. I have a Matthews preemie baby light stand (aluminum) with Matthews baby boom and I'd like to get my very first strobe. (I'd imagine that's a better move than buying a continuous light source?)
Now I admittedly don't really know too much about off camera lighting yet, but I'm determined to get into it and I've been reading.
I want to start with one light (or strobe) and learn how to use it properly (with reflectors - I do have a separate stand and arm for my 42" 6-in-1 Westcott reflector set - soft light enclosure, umbrella, whatever), rather than to buy a whole kit right off the bat.
So I would like to get a good strobe, not a budget-minded priority, but not looking to necessarily buy the most expensive one out there either unless there's a decided advantage in that.
I'm mainly interested in being able to do artificially lit still lifes, etc.
Can you folks guide me on what light/strobe to go for (brand, model, power, etc.), understanding that I will be expanding the light setup as I learn more. Assume this will become my key light as I expand.
**Also, can you give me advice regarding accessories (and brands, in particular) such as what umbrella(s), softlights, etc.? Thanks so much.
And lastly, do you have any recommendations for a background setup and a source for backgrounds - I don't need a huge setup as if for whole body portrait photography, it'll be mostly for still life work (a bit bigger than tabletop), maybe up to three of four feet high at most.
Thanks for your help.
