why do Nikon users complain that Canon lenses tend to have chromatic aberrations?

I had an interesting conversation with 3 Nikon users who said Canon L lenses have aberations which they couldn't use for architecture photography.

Canon 1DM4,7D, Rebel XT
580 EX II, 430 EX II
Canon 70-200mm IS II L , Canon 85mm F1.2 L II, Canon macro 100mm F/2.8, 18-55mm kit
Sigma 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6, Sigma 10-22mm, Sigma 50mm F/1.4
Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 EX DG HSM

I heard that Nikon lenses emit "Smug". A substance that makes the owner obsessed with the smell of his own farts.

OK, stole that one from Southpark, but it seemed appropriate.

some of L lenses do have noticeable CA but most of them are already in Mark II versions so it shouldn't be an issue. Tell your friends that they look like Ken Rockwell and see how they respond ^^

nikon user here and I neither like Ken Rockwell nor think any brand of "smug" (canon or nikon) is without odor. So I think I can offer an objective opinion.

I think your friends must be referring to the 14-24 which is amazing at controlling CA (as well as distortion) and probably the best wide angle lens on the market. So it would be ideal for architecture (if you didn't want to use a tilt shift)

When I shot canon, I had a few lenses that were notorious for CA (16-35LII, 50 1.4 & 85 1.4L). And now that I shoot nikon I do notice less CA.

That being said, I think it's a combination of lenses and processors. Some of my canon lenses that showed no real CA on the 1ds2 showed horrible CA on my 40D & 1Dmk3.

However, except for the nikon 14-24 and 24-70, I'd still take any of canon's L lenses over my current options.

What people don't realize is that there are definitely high points and low points in each brand. That's ok.

Some lenses from both camps have CA. It's just the fact of life with some of these lenses.

I have lenses from Canon, albeit not pro lenses, I haven't even noticed any type of CA in my photos.

CA can be an issue with almost any lens when pushed to extremes. However it is very easy to cure.

Some folks are gear snobs (like the OP's complainers), others just get on with shooting and overcome any issues that come up.
