It's really simple--they say that because, in general, it's true, especially with Canon's wide lenses. You can talk up Canon all you want, but it is a fact that Canon doesn't do wide angle lenses as well as Nikon.

Does it really matter in the end? Depends on your application. There are some Nikons notorious for CA as well (one iteration of the 80-200 f/2.8 comes to mind), but I think it's a generally fair statement.

Does it mean you should go throw out all your Canon lenses? Well, it's your money... ;)

Hmm.. A quick check over at the Photozone shows that Canon and Nikon lenses are pretty much neck and neck as to resolution and CA. Nikon dude's a dork.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I believe that Nikon cameras autocorrect for CA in JPEG images taken so for those who only do non-raw would think that Nikon lenses are better fro CA. In reality no lens is perfect in CA (damn colours having different wavelengths ;) ) but it's damn easy to fix post.

This is also true, yes. And I don't think anyone's saying Nikon lenses are perfect, just that in general they exhibit less CA.
