I know this question may seem silly but I would like to know the proper orientation (lens facing up/down/sideways) to store them when not in use. thanks!

GJim Goldmember More info | May 17, 2010 22:23 | #2 As long as both caps are in place, I don't see any great difference in storage orientation. I store all mine lens facing down, in photo-vest - but that's more for quick change-out than any other reason. I know that when I reach for a lens which direction it is facing. My telephotos are stored faced down. The smaller lens on their side. All with both caps in place & all in a Pelican 1624 when not in use

I happen to store all of mine front element down, but thats just bc I prefer to grab them by the rear of the lens and bc my pelican case is deep enough to stand them up so I wouldnt lay them down. It also lets the sediment collect so decanting is easier. I'm surprised he didn't mention the preferred temperature of 45-55 F (10-15 C). All that's wonderful directions for caring for your wine, especially the vintage port that your grandfather laid down at your birth for toasting your first grandson, but a trifle overboard for the lenses in your camera bag.
