This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture, re-sized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being re-sized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #284".

This game will end at 12:20 AM EST on Friday, May 21st. Have fun!
(remember that friday morning, or really late thursday night if you think of it that way)

This photo has great potential, i've edited it many times so i know.

Opened in ACR, bumped blacks a bit, also increased clarity and vibrance, decreased saturation a bit.
Then in photoshop: duplicated background, blurred green channel somewhat. Reduced duplicate layers opacity to around 37%. Added channel Mixer adj. layer checked monochrome, pushed green and decreased red/blue. Set opacity of that layer to 75. Added Levels Adj. Layer and adjusted black end until I was happy. Cropped and straightened a bit as well.

Cropped image, output several different version with various different color saturations in lightroom, overlayed them in photoshop, masked in specific parts (completely desaturated trianglular monument, desaturated tree and sky, upped constrasted portion of building and forground;

modified overall background color curves (to bring out an eerie looking sky and tree (dunno if it worked or not)) copied visible layer, applied a cracked concrete texture, erased select parts of said texture over the trees, adjusted size (prior to texturing) output file.

compilation of layer views

tried to correct the building perspective using the

- Distort - lens correction filter
- cropped
- clonned in some grass on the left side of the hill
- sharpened the building and added some Gaussian Blur to the background
- added some contrast
- I repositioned the statue on the top of the building

see flickr page for photo (external link)

1) duplicated image - removed sky - cloned trees for "fullness".
2) added layer - made this layer red.
3) used "cloud" brush with black to make clouds.
4) went back to main image and duplicated twice.
5) made one layer mode "hard light" at 100% opacity.
6) made second layer mode "multiply" at 39.6% opacity.

well looks like you guys gave a wide variety of edits.
Great work by everyone. each has its own style, none of which looked like my original edit.
The Winner is DWARFCOW as that old school print style did me over.
the red sky in the last one gives it a 28 days later sort of feel. that was pretty awsome too

Dwarfcow, its time to star another comp.........take it away
