Eagle taking a dead cod we had on the line while out fishing. Eagle was in a tree about a half mile away. We whistled and tossed the fish and he was on his way. Shot off the coast of Victoria, BC, Canada where I am back visiting the family and friends before I head back to the Dark Continent. Sorry about the quality. This one really didn't like being downsized and resampled for the forum. Also a really cloudy day and very late this afternoon. I don't have a photo hosting page

50D and 70-200mm 1/2500 @ f/2.8. ISO 1000

I’ve never tossed a fish but I have often thought about tossing a fish :)
Never thought it would work. Guess I was wrong.

nice shot. It's hard to tell, but that sure looks like a huge eagle!

Nice shot. My guess is, he's been fed before. They are quite easily trained if your in the area often enough. :)

Thanks for the comments. I wish I had been out on a previous trip my dad and his friend had been on. They had nothing but cod on the line that they would throw back and the eagles would be snatching them out of the air. What a photo op that would have been.

Love the shot...I got to get me some tossin' fish for my eagle photography.

Where near Victoria, if you don't mind me asking?

Last summer crab fishing near Sooke, there was an eagle not so far away in a tree. One of our group said, "Watch this", and chucked a piece of our crab bait (chicken scraps) into the water. Same thing - I was surprised when the eagle jumped right off his perch and snapped it up within seconds. Thank you for sharing this.

Taken off the southern point of Moresby Island. I've seen tons of Eagles hiding around Island View beach though. As good as any place for some good shots.
