The are very good shots great capture. Is this just a good copy or are these generally very sharp lenses? sorry to hijack. Why Die Wondering?

If they are bad, it seems they are bad out of the box as I received one and got an Err 01 immediately. Sent back and new one has arrived! THe lens has a rep for being one of the sharpest Canon lenses ever. Please Check Out My Work at:

May 20, 2010 09:11 | #10 Backstop must be pretty far off on this field. I had to go 200mm on our girls field to fit them completely in the frame.

Great shots. You guys with the 300s are killin' me! Not sure where the $$ will come from before football season starts, buy I'll have one somehow! Depending on your budget (and assuming that you cannot afford both (the f/2.8, 300mm & 400mm) and depending on your shooting preferences, you might find f/2.8, 300mm is more practical. It just depends. As much as one may like the f/2.8 70-200mm, you will get spoiled with the 300mm. It's glass and tack sharpness will make it difficult to put it down. How did you get low enough to shoot #5? Were you sitting, kneeling, or did you take the 300 off the monopod and lay down or perhaps a photo well? The field dirt and the concrete behind the backstop are flush. I sat on the concrete, using a Manfrotto 680 B monopod, 4 sections, that folds down to 20.0 inches. Positioned the 300mm as much as possible so that most of the center of the hood/lens was shooting through the space of one of the links of the chain link fence. Backstop must be pretty far off on this field. I had to go 200mm on our girls field to fit them completely in the frame. The backstop is about 15-18 ft behind home plate. Xochi2
