Saw this on a craigslist posting and I have never seen a display on a 7D battery grip anybody have any clue? Doesn't look like it would fit 2 batteries. IDK

its the wifi grip made by canon WFT-E5A

only thing is, its not like any other battery grip since you can only fit 1, yes ONE battery in it. most of the space inside is occupied by the wifi transmitter.

Other ones you may see are third party grips such as the one found here: http://www.linkdelight.com …tailed-product-flyer.html (external link)

and the single battery is for the wi-fi transmitter, you still need to keep your battery in the camera.

Yup. It’s the radio grip. (I’ve got one.) There are different versions for different markets depending on local radio regulations. You can tell which one by the final letter. I have the WFT-E5B.

The cost of the 7D WFT thingie as compared to the the price of the 5DMkII WFT thingie (twice the price) was enough to swing me in favour of the 7D.

the only real advantage of this grip is the fact that you can be wireless and still connect to your laptop or PC and use EOS program. if this function is what youre looking form then by all means, get it.

but most people get the battery grip for the additional battery power...and i mean most people, not all.

This item is NOT a battery grip at all. It allows you to radio link in various ways your camera with eg a laptop or a network. It doesn’t increase your battery power whatsoever. The camera still uses its one battery and this WFT device uses one battery of the same type - not linked to the camera proper at all.

It does however give you the physical shape of a battery grip and those extra controls for portrait-style operation. But if you want a battery grip, this is not for you.

I bought it to 'liveview' operate my camera remotely - plus it handily downloads the files to the laptop if you want. It has other uses too.

to OP: If it's the same price as the BG-E7 then pick it up immediately-- even if you dont need it. BUT make sure it is what you think it is. I've seen an eBay 3rd party 7D grip that also has an LCD screen seemingly for nothing, but the functionality of it was more like a battery grip.

to lincalook: this grip may be worlds apart from you as I believe the 7D wireless grip is strictly for the 7D. unless you are using it to transmit wirelessly to/from a computer when you are shooting, you would not buy this grip -- wirelessly trasmitting (and the portrait grip) is about all you gain from this thing for a hefty premium (and do not gain any battery slots, as someone said above). even the official canon battery grip is 1/3 of the price of this grip. As far as recommending grips for your 550D, start another thread as it will confuse people who read the current threads title.

If you can read this, you don't need a macro | 7D + 5DIII + Waaaay too much spent....

The WFT-E5A wireless transmitter offers professional photographers a wide range of digital connectivity options including IEEE802.11a/b/g and Ethernet, ideal for commercial and studio work. The WFT-E5A wireless file transmitter opens the door to new possibilities in remote and Geotagged shooting applications. Photographers can fire up to 10 cameras simultaneously from across the room or across the country while maintaining control over camera settings and remote live view on a laptop or smart phone. The WFT-E5A wireless transmitter can also transfer and display images on DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatible televisions and photo frames. Geotagging is now possible via Bluetooth, using compatible GPS devices to append coordinate data to the images."

Oh and the non-linkage between this device’s battery and the camera’s battery is such that if you want to power from the main electricity supply (I sometimes do), you have to buy TWO ACK-E6 AC Adapter Kits: One for the camera and one for the WFT radio grip.
