Still life is a different world to me, it's like posing people; while I can capture, the creating is out of my element.

Taken with the on camera flash (Rebel XTi) But I grabbed a pad of paper and bounced it off the ceiling in the kitchen, then lightened the image slightly in photoshop

way under exposed to me. No detail in the subject.

For a black object you want to stick it in a light box.. Home made boxes work well as I've done one myself :)

I like the darkness of it, it gives that military solid built piece of equipment feel just my 2 cents

I somewhat agree but it could still be a smidge brighter. The white lettering should be white.
