What's the first thing you say to them before they take your picture?

For me, It's to tell them to keep the subject off-center.

Nobody has ever asked to use one...

I offer them quite freely but usually the attached 300 f/2.8 or 500 f/4 tends to make them hand it back quite quickly! ;)

I turn mine to green box first so there's less to explain. "Turn this to zoom" and "Push this to shoot" covers it.

I don't think I've ever been more than 6 feet from my cameras (unless they're being stored safe and sound at home)...in the very, very few times that I have let someone touch them the first thing I say is

"Here...let me help you with that" (as I put the strap around their neck...)

Probably becuase it's used by like 1% of the photographic population...

I've tried discussing / suggesting it to many working professionals and they have no clue what I'm talking about. Especially shocking are those using 1-series bodies who've never even tried it.

Never would I hand my DSLR to someone else. My P&S on the other hand, the can do whatever.
