Instead of having the camera focus when the shutter button is half-pressed, I have a custom function enabled to switch focus to the * button which is under my thumb.
There's a whole thread about it which I'll link to once I find it.

I did change a few things around on the 7D menu, i think this will be handy with my grip, it tends to fire off a few without focus first! Both AF and IS (especially IS) need "a beat" to get dialed in for fullest effect. Many think IS is instantaneous and it definately isn't... Jay

But when they do, I usually end up saying "hold it with your left hand under the lens". As they try to use my MkIII with 70-200/2.8 holding the body with both hands. Blipfoto

I also always say LOOK into the viewfinder.... as people holds the camera as if they are holding a P&S.

Ill set that up tonight, give it a whirl, will be really handy when using the grip! You should feel the IS on the 300 f/2.8 and 500 f/4. Feels like it wants to torque right out of your hand! Jay

If they have an attitude about how easy it is to push a button, I switch it to M and MF and hand over. I usually place the strap around their neck myself, lol.
