So I'm a student, which means that even the Canon 270Ex would require some saving.
However you gotta have a flash, right? (YES I KNOW YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION )

So anyway 2 days ago, after reading about a million threads on here about everything about flashes, I bit the bullet and bought as my first flash a ..... YN460-II.

(let the insults commence...)

Bear with me, I had my reasons.
1. I'm poor
2. It was cheap (£40 ($60))

So what am I missing out on?
The main things I can see are;
ETTL and zoom. As well as all the fancy stuff like 2nd curtain sync etc.

My answers;
Not going to be in a situation where I can't take a couple of test shots, I hope.
I bought some RF602's as well, so I'm hoping that with a combination of those, some home made softboxes (I got a diffuser free with it, and it has a (tiny) bounce card and a wide angle diffuser built in), Ill be fine!

So tell me I am a pillock and that I am missing out on wayyy more.

For off camera work you got a good flash. For on camera, the ettl versions of the YN flashes would have been a bit more useful, while still being affordable.

ETTL is overrated.

You made a good choice. You'll learn how to shoot manual and that'll be a valuable skill.

Just taking the flash off-camera will get you ahead of 80% of the nitwits using their 580EX II's on camera, pointed straight forward.

Thanks guys, the RF602's came in the post today so I was going to have a wee play..but then my batteries ran out :P
Now I have to wait for my rechargeable batteries to come tomorrow!
OCF was the main reason I got a flash, I managed to pick up the 460 and the 602's for the same price as a 465.
