I have no idea what this bird is called beyond the Hungarian colloquial name of Hőpi, after I presume the noise that the make.

This little chap was sitting in our polytunnel when we went to water this morning and I would love to know what it is woould be grateful if anyone could help...

A really striking bird, I don't think I've seen one properly before.

The English word for this bird is a Hoopoe...

Beautiful little birds. We call it a Hoopoe too. Although we don't have any here.

Looks like a government-designed bird. Nice shot.

Thanks for the replies, my bird knowledge kinda stops after Sparrow and pigeon, I'm a city lad orginally! Although having spent 2 years in the Hungarian countryside by identification of our feathered friends has increased significantly :)
