Fellas, what is the best way to resize photos for sharing on the Forums and emailing pics, because the file sizes are soo HUGE they need to be resized. Ive used Paint but thats not going to fly anymore. Thanks a bunch

Just about any photo editing program makes resizing simple. You can do it in Paint, you can get little apps, or you can move to an app like Photoshop Elements that gives you more editing power than Paint and it also makes the resizing easy.

Each ap will have its own little method -- you just have to poke the numbers in and understand the options. A typical approach is to have the option to keep the aspect ratio intact checked, then for POTN you just enter 1024 pixels for the max size in each dimension. You also need to deal with jpeg quality levels, which may be in the same dialog or may be just through going through the Save As routine. If you are uploading from your computer to POTN you set the quality middle/low enough to keep within the 150KB file size. For other uses you set it to whatever works.

For the forum and other Web/computer display uses you can ignore the PPI figure -- it has to be something but only has meaning if you are calculating a print or graphical layout at a given size. For the Web and the screen the figure means nothing.

Hope that helps a bit -- if you have specific questions, let us know!

Yes it does. In the Convert and Save dialog (and the Batch dialog) there are settings for both resizing the image and for setting the jeg quality. They are pretty simple to use.

If you're on a PC, Irfanview makes it dead simple - and it's free.

Your Canon software DPP will do some basic editing and will resize your files also. Now that the latest version has a horizon leveling tool DPP is about all I ever use for PP these days and I rarely use my Photoshop Elements 8 anymore.
