I think maybe I worded it wrong by saying brighter, I think his skin is good in the first one, its the shadow's that are a little bit to dark for my taste. Do you have PhotoShop? if yes try dodging just a tad (but remember to keep it at a low level, maybe around 5 or 8%.

The second edit is a bit TOO bright, try somewhere in between the two. LOVE that popsicle thing though, typical little boy and his delight in the frozen treat is evident in his eyes! Both your boys are gorgeous.
In the first shot, I may have not allowed the blanket to cover up quite so much of his perfect, velvet baby skin. I know that he probably pulled the edge of the blanket up himself, but perhaps mom could have kept it down while you were shooting, so his chest was exposed? Also, that angle kept his eyes from fully opening up. If you had been directly overhead or even 6 more inches, would his eyes have been a looking slightly less "down"? When Anne Geddes shoots her newborn shots that are directly overhead, she actually has a contraption built with an opening so she can climb up and shoot from directly overhead. I'm certainly not suggesting you do that, I'm only pointing out the advantages of having the lens completely PARALLEL baby's eyes. You were almost there! Those eyes of his are AMAZING!
Really nice work on both shots.
